Blue Tongue expands world-first upskill program to Canada

In 2011, Australian company Blue Tongue developed a groundbreaking program to combat the Heavy Equipment Technician skills shortage in the mining industry. By upskilling automotive service technicians, they reinvented the way to solve Australia’s skills shortage. This year, Blue Tongue will be offering their world-first Advanced Group Training Program in Canada.

“We have one specific goal,” says Managing Director and Founder, Tully Young. “To solve your critical workforce shortages of Heavy Equipment Technicians. We were the first company in Australia to offer an upskill program like this, and with this expertise behind us, we can’t wait to launch in Canada.”

“I came up with the name Blue Tongue because I wanted something that would capture the spirit of our business,” Young says. “The Blue Tongue Lizard lives in the Australian desert and is known for its resilience in the face of tough challenges. We are renowned across the industry for being just that: We help businesses overcome their toughest workforce challenges by supplying skills programs and technical people to mining and resources companies who operate heavy mobile equipment in the harsh Australian outback.”

More than 1,000 successful employees have completed Blue Tongue’s Advanced Group Training Programs to date. Clients have reported successes such as a 93% employee retention rate, better labour cost control amidst a rapidly inflated environment, and improved productivity and workplace culture.

“While we see strong similarities between Canada and Australia in terms of the skills shortage,” Young says, “we’ve spent a lot of time uncovering the nuances between the two markets. Because of this, we’re in a really unique position to help Canadian companies build a dedicated workforce of Heavy Equipment Technicians.”
