Blue Tongue’s Electrical Trade to Instrumentation Advanced Group Training Program was built for the specific needs of the oil and gas industry in the area of E&I maintenance, with practical training and employment on real rigs and equipment.

In 2013, Blue Tongue piloted its first Electrical to Instrumentation Advanced Group Training Program in Chinchilla, QLD. During the 18-month pilot, Blue Tongue sourced and hired skilled maintenance electricians and upskilled them to work as instrumentation electricians for our partner client Broadspectrum Limited.

More than 90% of employees went on to achieve their career goals to work as E&I technicians.

During the initial training block, our electricians received Recognition of Prior Learning for competencies already achieved in their electrical apprenticeships.

The state-of-the art industry facilities at our trusted RTO partner replicates a simulated work environment specifically for electricians in the oil and gas industry. Our custom designed training ensured our employees were able to commence work on day one as competent technicians.

The employees were trained in hazardous areas and competencies for the Certificate IV in Electrical Instrumentation. Once the initial training was completed, Blue Tongue managed the transition to site, and employees commenced working for our client. Blue Tongue continued to manage any additional training, before facilitating our employees’ transition to work directly for Broadspectrum Limited.

In total, the upskilled electricians receive the following qualifications:

Certificate IV Hazardous Areas
Certificate IV Electrical Instrumentation
Certificate III Electrical Instrumentation and Control
Certificate III Special Class Electrician (optional – if requested by client)
