Hayden Hilton - Hired, Up-Skilled, Graduated And Successfully Working As A Heavy Mobile Plant Technician At NRW Mining & Civil

Before I started the trade upgrade I was a light vehicle mechanic in a performance workshop, so sort of performing in all roles dealing with customers, bookings, carrying out the work and then handing over the completed car or project back to the customer.

Born and bred in Melbourne, but obviously reside now in Perth so I call Perth my home now. Perth is my home now.

Working in mining was always of interest I just didn’t really know how to get into it or how to go down the path. Obviously finishing up at my last place of employment I’ve seen the program and I thought it was a great way to get the foot in the door, get experience and then get into the industry, a nice tailored program and it fasted tracked me into the industry as well.

One of my old friends was in the program a few years ago so I discussed with him, and then checked it out on social media as well – on Facebook.

I’ve been trying to twist a couple of friends’ arm to do it, but they are still pretty happy with what they are doing. There’s a whole big world out there.

Its more opened my eyes to a whole other area, being a mechanic and Up-Skilling to heavy equipment, in mobile plant. Opened the learning, the doors for future learning, development, and experience. So, that’s what I’ve been really grateful for. There is so much to learn, still so much to learn. Every day I’ll probably learn something new or learn a better way of doing something. So, its always continual improvement, continual learning.

Some things with the bigger stuff is actually a lot easier to work on just due to their size and their nature. You have a lot more room and access compared to, like, smaller equipment or light vehicles as such. The bigger the machines, generally the easier they are to work on.
