Up-Skilling (for Heavy Maintenance Trades)

The thriving Australian mining industry needs skilled workers, and our passion is providing solutions to the critical skills shortages that exist in Australia’s heavy maintenance sector. ‘Innovation’, ‘skills development’ and ‘up-skilling’ are not trendy words we throw around in committees and industry seminars, they are part of Blue Tongue’s everyday operations in the real world. Our team is committed to investing in training local Australians, enabling them to transition into the mining sector.

Through our up-skilling program, Blue Tongue allows dedicated individuals to learn highly demanded specialist knowledge and skills, while establishing themselves in one of the most highly sought after trades across the Australian Mining and Heavy Automotive Industries. Our up-skilling program involves pre-job placement training and ongoing employment placement, leading to a career in the expanding and prosperous mining industry.

In 2009, Blue Tongue piloted a program where we offered eight individuals an opportunity to become an apprentice Belt Technician and work in the conveyor rubber maintenance sector. Five of these candidates now earn over $100K per annum working in the mining industry as expert belt repairers.

In 2011, Blue Tongue won a government grant to recruit, hire and train 48 light vehicle mechanics as trainee Mobile Heavy Equipment Fitters in the mining industry. This unique project was very successful.

Blue Tongue was awarded another government grant in 2012 due to the efficiency, excellence and overall success of our previous mining up-skilling program. We now have 96 trainee Mobile Heavy Equipment Fitters embarking on a lucrative and fulfilling career within the mining industry.
